Laboratory inspection and safety
Essential for operators’ safety, fume hoods prevent contamination of ambient air by maintaining a constant suction flow at the front. Kimo instruments and Sauermann services ensure that this air flow is properly controlled.
Safety standards require several test points, some of which are crucial: mapping of face velocities, measurement of outlet airflow, and measurement of ambient airflow within the laboratory. Sauermann offers end-to-end solutions for these performance tests.

Air velocity and airflow
Frontal velocity mapping
Frontal velocity mapping
This mapping involves taking measurements at several points on the front side to check the homogeneity and velocity of the inflowing air. Kimo hot-wire anemometers (± 3% VL, ± 0.03 m/s) guarantee the accuracy of these measurements.
The number of measurement points depends on the width of the fume cupboard, and the recommended average velocity is 0.4 m/s, evenly applied to each point. Our probe extensions and telescopic hot wires allow you to avoid standing in front of the fume cupboard, in order not to disrupt the air flow.
Exhaust air flow measurement
Exhaust air flow measurement
The exhaust airflow rate extracted from the fume hood is an essential measurement for monitoring its suction performance. It can be measured on the fume cupboard outlet duct (portable instrument, hot-wire sensor) or even in the technical area (transmitter).
If the flow rate is too low, the fume cupboard cannot guarantee proper extraction of emanations, which could then contaminate the surrounding air. If the flow rate is too high, turbulence may also compromise containment and reduce the energy efficiency of the system.
Si-C320
For clean rooms, regulated environments and industrial VAC applications where a perfect regulation/monitoring of the air parameters is needed, our Si-C320 transmitters provide reliable measurements and allow you to achieve compliance with the strictest regulations.
The Si-C320 housing is waterproof, rugged and resistant to vaporised hydrogen peroxide (VHP). It also features a colour touch screen for comprehensive viewing and advanced control of measurement parameters.
In addition, measurements can be recorded and downloaded via the Sauermann Control application/software.
Air velocity hotwire probe
Interchangeable hotwire probe for air velocity and temperature measurements.
Stainless steel body length 267 mm (10.51''), Ø 8 mm (0.31'').
Thanks to its design, it minimises the impact of the angle of the airflow on the measurements.
Main applications: laminar flow monitoring in clean rooms, isolators, glove boxes, fume hoods, isolation cabinets, pharma/cosmetic and semiconductors manufacturing facilities.
Si-ACC-RVP probe cable for connection to class 320 transmitters is needed.

Ambient velocity measurement
Ambient velocity measurement
The behaviour of the ambient air around the fume hood (ventilation system, door openings) must also be monitored, as it can interfere with the flow of air drawn into it. An omnidirectional hot-wire probe is essential for this type of measurement.
Given the very low velocities required (0.2 m/s), the accuracy of the measuring instruments is crucial. A Kimo device with an omnidirectional hot-wire probe measures the average velocity of ambient air, regardless of flow direction, with an accuracy of ± 0.05 m/s and a resolution of 0.01 m/s.
Omnidirectional probe SOM 900
Kimo's stainless steel omnidirectional telescopic probes measure air velocity, hygrometry, and temperature, offering flexible, accurate data collection for a range of environmental and HVAC applications. The telescopic design ensures easy use in varied settings.

Metrological Services
Metrological Services
Sauermann has state-of-the-art laboratories in France for the calibration and verification of measuring equipment, using highly advanced velocity and flow test benches to guarantee the precision required for fume hood inspection.
To guarantee the accuracy of measurements of frontal velocities, ambient velocities and airflow in and around fume hoods, the instruments must be accurate to very low values. Metrological follow-up (calibration and verification) is therefore essential.
