Reducing Carbon Footprint Important for HVACR

Carbon footprint text

Note: The blog below includes information from the Sauermann Group`s Kimo brand. A recognised leader of portable and fixed measurement equipment for over 30 years, Kimo provides a wide range of measuring solutions for pressure, temperature, humidity, air velocity, airflow, gas analysis, air quality, sound level, and other parameters. In 2015, Kimo joined the Sauermann Group. The Group operates two main brands: Sauermann for condensate removal pumps (including accessories and solution kits) and instruments for improving indoor air quality, and Kimo for instruments aimed at measuring and monitoring air parameters.

It is very important to understand regulations to be compliant in the HVACR and indoor air quality industries. And there are some international regulations that will be important to HVACR manufacturers and businesses in 2018 and the future.

For example, air conditioner manufacturers will move toward using low Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerants because governments all over the world are phasing out the use of hydrofluorocarbons (HFC).

TheĀ Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, which phases down hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), will take effect in January 2019 as a number of EU Member States have now deposited their ratification instruments. The Amendment has already been ratified by 20 parties, including EU members Finland, Germany, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Sweden and the UK.Ā

Developed countries are mandated to make reductions first -- with a 10 percent reduction in HFC consumption in 2019 followed by a 40 percent reduction in 2024. This will include reducing the usage of refrigerant gases such asĀ R-134a, R-407C, R-410A.

Implementation of the agreement is expected to prevent up to 80 billion tonnesĀ of emissions by 2050, which will help in the fight against global warming.

The Sauermann Group has a number of measuring instruments and software that can help with the monitoring and tracking of refrigerant gases. For example, ourĀ Si-Manifold lineĀ has an App that can track information for up to 126Ā refrigerants, including low GWP and natural refrigerants. Likewise, our refrigerantĀ gas leak detectorsĀ can track the leakage of HFC, CFC, HCFC and blends. It is a useful tool to ensure manufacturers and companies are tracking and properly using their HFC usage.Ā

At the Sauermann Group, we believe everyone should do their part to combat global warming.
