The Lazzaro Spallanzani National Institute for Infectious Diseases is an infectious disease hospital in Rome. It is the Italian national reference center for Ebola patients.

In 2009, the World Health Organization appointed this institute as a “Collaborating Centre for Clinical Care, Diagnosis, Response and Training on Highly Infectious Diseases”, making it one of the most important institutes for infectious diseases worldwide.

When an Ebola patient is being treated, four validations must be completed before a doctor can safely enter the room. First the doctor`s fingerprint must be scanned. Then the doctor`s retina and his/her badge must also be confirmed through scans. Last of all, a room pressure check must be conducted. To prevent pathogens from escaping, the doors will only open if the room has negative pressure.

To ensure things run smoothly during this last stage and the door opens for doctors to visit infected patients, Sauermann Italia installed Kimo`s C-310 multifunction sensor with SPI2-100 interchangeable pressure boards.
